April Is Oral Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that your dentist can be the provider that spots the first sign of oral cancer? That is one reason why it is so important not to miss your six-month check-up. In addition, to regular check-ups, schedule an appointment with your doctor if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • A sore or irritation that does not go away
  • Red or white patches in the mouth or lips
  • Pain, tenderness or numbness in the mouth or lips
  • Lumps or thickening tissues
  • Rough spots, crusty or eroding areas
  • Difficulty chewing, swallowing, speaking or moving your jaw or tongue
  • A change in the way your teeth fit together when you close your mouth
  • Cough or sore throat that doesn’t go away
  • Hoarseness or other changes to your voice
